Behind the Lens at A Winter’s Tails Gala: Capturing the Night’s Authentic Moments

Beautiful Christmas Tree

I recently had the pleasure of photographing A Winter’s Tails Gala, a beautiful event filled with heartfelt connections, inspiring speeches, and a vibrant atmosphere. Local businesses sponsored the event and made trees with beautiful decor and exciting presents to be auctioned off to raise money for the Humane Society. Events like this are a joy to capture because they’re all about genuine moments—and my goal is always to document those in the most natural way possible.

For this gala, I relied on my Sigma 100-400mm lens, which is an absolute game-changer for events like these. This lens lets me stay in the background while still capturing crisp, detailed shots from a distance. I believe the best photos come when people forget there’s a camera around, and shooting with a long lens helps me achieve that. Whether it’s a heartfelt laugh, a meaningful glance, or a candid exchange, the magic happens when people feel free to just be themselves.

Why I Love Using a Long Lens For Corporate Events

The A Winter’s Tails Gala was a lively event with so much to take in—guests mingling, powerful moments on stage, and the warmth of people coming together for a shared cause. By using the Sigma 100-400mm, I was able to quietly move around the room, capturing everything without getting in anyone’s way.

There’s something special about photographing from a distance. It allows the moments to stay real and unposed. Instead of people stiffening up or becoming self-conscious, they’re free to enjoy the evening, and I get to preserve those natural, heartfelt interactions.

Why Flash Isn’t My Style for Events

If you’ve ever been startled by a camera flash at an event, you know how distracting it can be. That’s why I choose to leave the flash at home for events like this. Instead, I work with the venue’s lighting and let my gear do the heavy lifting. This approach helps keep the atmosphere comfortable and lets people stay focused on enjoying the evening, not worrying about whether they’re being photographed. This especially helps for important speeches!

The Night in Focus

A Winter’s Tails Gala was truly something special. From the powerful speeches to the little moments of laughter between friends, every part of the evening felt meaningful. It was an honor to capture those memories and create a visual story that reflects the authenticity of the night.

Events like this remind me why I love to photograph. There’s nothing quite like being able to preserve moments that matter—moments that tell a story without needing words.

If you’re planning an event and want someone who can quietly capture the heart of it all, I’d love to be there. Let’s create something memorable together!
